The last opportunity to do a report for a 2009-2010 Mark Twain or Truman nominated book will be May 14.  Ask your child if he or she has already completed one.

 

Students received a reading progress report today.  I have included the grade for a 2009-2010 Mark Twain or Truman nominated book report so that you can easily see if your child has completed the report.  If your child hasn’t already completed it, he or she has one last opportunity on May 14th

 

Students may continue reading The Lightning Thief independently.  At this point, students need to illustrate one unknown vocabulary word per chapter after finishing chapters 4-6.

 

Monday:

*Go over the journal responses, vocabulary, questions and follow-ups for Chapters 4-6

*Each class will first create a list for a how-to activity

*Choose an activity/item to begin itemizing each step of the process

 

 

Tuesday:

*Finish detailed list of “how-to” and begin to draw very detailed drawings depicting each step

 April Reading Log is due May 4th.

 Book orders are due May 7.  It will be the last book order of the school year.

 We’ll continue working on The Lightning Thief this week and also start working on our How-To writing project.

We will be doing vocabulary, questions and follow-up activities for each set of 3 chapters. 

Vocabulary:  I have given students the definitions for the vocabulary words that are given for each chapter.

Questions:  Students have 2 questions assigned for each chapter in each set.

Follow-up Activities:  One follow-up activity of the student’s choice has to be completed for each set of chapters.  The follow-up activities vary widely and the instructions must be followed correctly to receive full credit. 

 The work can be done independently, so that any student who wants to read and work ahead may do so.

 The last opportunity to do a report for a 2009-2010 Mark Twain or Truman nominated book will be May 14.

 

We started The Lightning Thief on Friday.  It is a fantasy with a modern setting for the Greek gods and their offspring.  Percy, our main character and a half-blood, discovers that his father is one of the Greek gods, and he has to go on a modern day quest.  

 

We will be doing vocabulary, questions and follow-up activities for each set of 3 chapters. 

Vocabulary:  I have given students the definitions for the vocabulary words that are to be defined for each chapter.
