Reminder September Reading Log Due

Friday, September 26th, 2008

The September Reading Log is due Oct. 3.  Remember that a Mark Twain or Truman Reader Award book will need to be read by the week before Christmas, so that would be a good book to be reading now.

The book for Book Talk has to have been chosen now and is also a good book to read for the reading log!

Sept. 15-19th

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

I don’t think that I have given this information:  We have after school tutoring Tuesday through Thursday.

Tuesday:  Mrs. Hampton for Science and Social Studies

Wednesday:  Mrs. Anderson for Communication Arts (also could work on handwriting at this time)

Thursday:  Mrs. Herron for Math

Students don’t need any permission slip to stay.  Just make sure that you and your child know when he or she is going to stay.

LANGUAGE:  Diagramming compound subjects.  Worksheet exercises 2, 3, & 4 due Wednesday for Hampton and Herron.  Exercise 2 due for Anderson.

READING:  Continued work with summarizing articles.  We’ll read “Bullies” and summarize it as well as do a questions page.

3rd Week Already

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Please encourage your child to get a book chosen to do a Book Talk if he or she hasn’t already chosen one.  I’ll be doing a sample Book Talk on Wednesday to show exactly what I’m wanting.

I’m currently doing Language for 2 days of the week, Monday and Tuesday, and Reading for 3 days.  I’m not sure that I like it at this time, so that may change.

We are doing a little diagramming this week in Language starting with identifying the simple subjects and simple verbs.  Hopefully your child will be able to tell you that predicate is another word for verb!

Also on Friday, or today in some cases,  your child got one of 5 writing assignments to work on.  Those assignments are due Tuesday the 9th.  They have very good thought provoking ideas.  I chose them because each paper has more than one requirement to be completed correctly.
