Dec. 1-5

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Your child was given a small slip of paper Monday, Dec. 1st, to tape into that day’s agenda.  If the paper was blank, nothing is owed.  If an assignment is on the paper then that assignment hasn’t been handed in.  I okayed anything that was handed in on Monday.

Language: Monday and Wednesday– Focusing on doing an expository, or reseach, paper on one of the elements of civilization.  We will be covering how to research, write, and correctly document sources using a bibliography.  There will not be any homework for language this week.

Literature Books chapters 11-15 are due Friday the 5th.  There will be class time on Tuesday and Thursday to work on the assignment.

November Reading Logs are due Dec. 3rd.

A short report on a Mark Twain or Truman Reader nominated book is due Dec. 12.

Book Talks will start Dec. 11.

Late work and upcoming assignments due

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Your child was given a small slip of paper Monday the 24th to tape into that day’s agenda.  If the paper was blank, nothing is owed.  If an assignment is on the paper then that assignment hasn’t been handed in.  I okayed anything that was handed in yesterday.

Literature Books chapters 11-15 are due the Thursday after Thanksgiving Break.  The roles were assigned today, Tuesday the 25th.  I was very disappointed in how many assignments weren’t completed on time for chapters 8-10 even though the students had more time than usual.

November Reading Logs are due Dec. 3rd.

Book Talks will start Dec. 11.

Progress Reports

Friday, November 14th, 2008
I have sent home both language and reading progress reports
today, November 14th.

I have indicated on the reading report whether the
assignments that were due yesterday and today have been
handed in also.

Due to a surprise assembly today the spelling test didn’t
happen. It will now be on Monday.

Nov. 12-14

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Spelling test next week: We’ll take the commonly misspelled words only.  Not the homophones.  The words are located on page 13 of the Communication Arts Notebook.   I’ll also put the words on a Page on this blog.

Language:  We have spent 2 days finding figurative language in the Literature Books we are reading in reading and Thurs. a Figurative Language worksheet will be completed in class.

Thursday and Friday: Personal Narrative rough drafts will be handed back.  We’ll go over the changes I recommend.  They’ll have the rest of the day Thursday and part of the day Friday to rewrite the personal narrative.  Those who are finished will start reading their personal narratives to the class.  The rest will read theirs aloud on Monday.

Reading:  We are meeting in discussion groups Wednesday to discuss chapters 5-7 of the Literature Books.  Each student will go over the role that has been assigned to them.

Chapters 8-10 will be assigned Wednesday and will be due next Wednesday, November 19.

TEST: I AM DOING A TEST E-MAIL TODAY, 11-12, TO EVERY PARENT WHO HAS GIVEN THEIR ADDRESSES TO THE BLUE TEAM.  IF YOU DON’T GET AN E-MAIL FROM ME, I EITHER HAVE ENTERED IT INCORRECTLY OR I DON’T HAVE IT AT ALL.  PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I NEED TO ADD YOU.

Didn’t quite make it this weekend!

Monday, November 10th, 2008

I didn’t get all the personal narratives graded this weekend.  Each one takes 5-15 minutes to grade, and there weren’t enough hours in the weekend to get to each of them.   I will put Mrs. Herron’s class’s grades in after school today, Monday.  I hope to finish Mrs. Hampton’s class’s papers tonight and get those grades in by Wednesday after school.  My homeroom class should be finished and in the grade program by Thursday after school.

Grades

Friday, November 7th, 2008

In both language and reading we have been doing longer projects.  Today, Friday, I have collected work for both subjects.  I anticipate getting everything graded this weekend and putting grades in the Gradebook program on Monday after school.

Today I gave a small slip of paper to each student that shows what work is owed.  The slips were to be taped into today’s agenda.
