Your child was given a small slip of paper Tuesday, Jan. 20, to tape into that day’s agenda.  If the paper was blank, nothing is owed.  If an assignment is on the paper, then that assignment hasn’t been handed in.  I okayed anything that was handed in on Tuesday.

Tuesday:  Language: go over ws 64-67, adding suffixes to root words, from last week

                    Mrs. Skaggs in the classroom.

Wednesday:  Language: ws 68 to assess adding suffixes to root words

Thursday:  Reading: Go over R2C worksheet from last week.  Discuss each aspect of it.

                     Get all moods in C.A.N.

January 12-16

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

Your child was given a small slip of paper Monday, Jan. 12, to tape into that day’s agenda.  If the paper was blank, nothing is owed.  If an assignment is on the paper, then that assignment hasn’t been handed in.  I okayed anything that was handed in on Monday.

3rd quarter will be reviewing lessons learned in the first 2 quarters in addition to covering new material.  Reading will mostly be short stories and skills to go along with those stories and application of the skills learned.

Lanuage:  Monday and Tuesday-  We’ll be reviewing and writing spelling rules regarding changing a base word when suffixes are added in the Communication Arts Notebook (C.A.N.) and doing some worksheets together using those rules.   Worksheets 64, 66, and 67 will be completed in class Monday and Tuesday.   They will be due Wednesday so we can go over them in class.

Wednesday- Review the rules and worksheets and change other words using those rules.  Ws 65 will be completed in class for a grade.

Wednesday and Thursday I will be out of class for half of each day for MRI training.  Missouri Reading Initiative provides training on teaching reading and writing processes.

Reading:  Wednesday and Thursday- First the students will have class time to finish the assignment from last week regarding Mood using the literature books.

Students read “What Happened to Dolly?” in Storyworks.  Several activities will be completed regarding this story about polio.  Everything will be completed in class.

Friday- First we’ll review mood and identify the mood in several poems.  One poem will be used as an assessment.

If time allows we’ll then go over what was completed Wed. and Thurs.  How much was accomplished will determine what the rest of the lesson will be on Friday.  We may just have time to review with no time to complete additional work.  There will be no homework from the story.

I hope you had a pleasant Christmas vacation.  I spent a small part of mine isolated with most of my family in a lodge in the back woods of Arkansas after the rains caused the water to rise over the bridge and wash away the roads leading to it.  No cell phone reception, no phones, no televisions, and no radios.  The manager of the camp, however, took good care of us and got us out safely the next day.

Back to school.

Mon. and Tues.- We’ll publish the poems that we wrote the last day of last year using the computer lab.

Mrs. Skaggs will visit Tuesday.

Wed., Thurs., and Fri.- We’ll discuss and collect the Lit book from last quarter, then we’ll analyze the mood and characterisation of each book.

Library on Wednesday.
