March 16-20

Monday, March 16th, 2009

If your child brought you the March Newsletter you are aware of the new late work policy.  I’ve posted that information here in case you haven’t seen the newsletter.

Changes are in the air!                                                                                                                                Blue team tried something new for the 3rd quarter regarding incomplete work.  The students were given the opportunity to complete late work on their own without being required to miss recess.  That policy hasn’t worked out well for the students.  Because late work has become a more serious problem than it had been, we will be changing that policy for the 4th quarter.

WIS is analyzing its policy regarding late work for next year.  The goal is to become more unified in our responses to both late work and inappropriate behavior.  As a result of reevaluating these policies and procedures the following will be implemented for the 4th quarter.

Regarding incomplete work:  A student will have 2 days to hand in late assignments.  The student will work on missing assignments during recess and may work at home for those two days.  If, after two days, the assignment hasn’t been completed the student will receive an office referral.

Regarding behavior:  Half of recess will be missed after 2 marks in the notebook.  All of recess will be missed after 4 marks in the notebook.  Marks will be made in the notebook for the following behaviors:  excessive talking, missing materials, being off task, disrespect, being disruptive, late to class, dishonesty and notes/agenda not signed.

Since the students know daily about work not handed in, I am discontinuing the Monday list of missing assignments.

March 2-6

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Your child was given a small slip of paper Monday, March 2, to tape into that day’s agenda.  If the paper was blank, nothing is owed.  If an assignment is on the paper, then that assignment hasn’t been handed in.  I okayed anything that was handed in on Monday.

All late work needs to be handed in by Friday to be graded and recorded for the 3rd quarter.  Anything not handed in by Friday will be entered as a 0% for the 3rd quarter.

Monday:  Language- Finding appositives in science and social studies books, observing the rules for quotations in C.A.N.

Tuesday:  Mrs. Skaggs will be in the classroom.

 Language-  Correctly using quotation marks.

Reading-  Book Talks will start March 3rd.  If you would like to come to watch your child deliver his or her book talk, just let me know and I’ll make sure you know when your child’s due date is.
