Reading Logs

August Reading Log is due September 2nd.

A Reading Log will need to be filled out for each month.  Only 150 minutes are required for August due to the time we are in school.  350 minutes are required for each following month.   Books, magazines, newspapers, and instruction manuals may be used for the log.  Check with me for anything else that you think of that may also be used.

Be sure to correctly note what has been read.  Keep in mind that if the author, or other information required,  isn’t given those minutes will not count for the log.

Regulations:

Anything read before 8:20 a.m. and after 3:30 p.m. on school days can count toward the reading log.  All reading done on weekends count.

Reading Log Information Needed for Different Types of Reading Material:

book- title and author

magazine- title and date (month and year)

newspaper- title and date (day and year)

anthology like Guinness World Book of Records- title, publisher and year

Bible and other similar religious books- Title of the book (i.e. Matthew or Genesis) and author of that book if known.  Check with Mrs. Anderson if you don’t know.

Students need to ask questions before the day the log is due and Mrs. Anderson will help find the correct information.

Students also need to notate is how many minutes were read.  A parent’s signature is also required.  The student is responsible for filling in the log and asking a parent to sign.

One idea to keep in mind is that a Mark Twain Award or Truman Award nominated book can be read for the Reading Log, Book Talk and, of course, for the requirement of reading one of the nominated books before Christmas break.
